Global Warming and Crocs don’t mix

According to a recent post by Michelle, Crocs left in a hot car can shrink. She explains she left her Crocs in her car with over 100 degree temps and they shrunk at least 1 shoe size.

I live in Texas and I leave my Green beach Crocs on my back porch for when I go outside or mow the yard. We have had triple digit weather for it seems the last 2 months and I have not noticed any difference in size. Granted an enclosed car is going to get much hotter than a covered patio.

Does anyone out there have a similar example of excessive heat shrinking their Crocs?

Yes my crocs thongs curled up while sitting outside in the sun and heat. Now I can not wear them. :(

yup, i had the same issue. we live on a boat, and i left mine on the deck outside. while we only had weather in the 90s, that’s all it took to shrink just one of my crocs! it shrunk enough that i can’t wear it…and the difference is visible.

it was so strange that just one of them shrunk, but it’s true. i searched online on the issue to see if others had the problem and found these posts.

    bummer…

I left mine in the car too and they sh rank significantly. It was on a day when the temps reached over 100 outside the car.

Think of the possiblities….global warming has GOOD side effects too – destroying crocs! Maybe we’re not doomed yet!!!!!!

A sales man at Journey’s told me to put my son’s in hot water to shrink them b/c they were too big :)

On my goodness, I thought my feet were growing or I was just going CRAZY, because my girlfriends Crocs still fit perfectly. After spending the weekend on the beach in Florida my thong flip flops are about two sizes too small. It appears I have wasted $33 dollars being that I purchased them as summer/beach wear.

Has anyone tried reheating them and then putting them on to see if they can be stretched back out? I left my Crocs thongs AND 2 pair of clogs in the car – and I’m in PHOENIX!!!

yep, both my husband and myself had crocs that shrunk. In both cases, we left them outside in the sun (doing yardwork) in Colorado. Also, in both cases we wondered whose crocs they were! Disappointing.

Hey! Can you believe it??? My friends crocks just shrunk yesterday in the car! We live in Northwest Georgia. She is going to contact the company.

YES!!! I left mine in the car overnight and when I put them on the next day I could not get my foot in them. They both shrunk!!!

i left mine in the car for 1 day/afternoon after a camping trip and when i went to put them on today, my left shoe was so shrunken i couldn’t get my foot in. the left one wouldn’t even go on my foot anymore (although, oddly, the right one, though smaller still fits). i wish i’d known. i still would have bought them, just not left them in the car (who’s ever had to worry about their shoes shrinking…??).

My crocs shrunk as well after being left outside multiple days in the hot sun. They’re easily fixed though. Put a thick pair of socks (or two) on. Using a large pasta pot, boil some water. Place the crocs in (I only had room for one at a time) for 20-30 seconds. Take them out, shake off the excess water (I used a pair of tongs), and then put them on your foot (they won’t be too hot). Let them cool (5 minutes on your double socked foot) and they will be streched out again!

awwah, don’t you just LOVE global warming.. and no, you haven’t had to worry about your shoes shrinking because let’s face it, crocs aren’t shoes.

    it’s a good thing you can’t wear them.. you’re free…

A sales rep actually advised I soak my Prima crocs in hot water for a while when I first get them, then put them on and wear them all day, in order to make them softer and make less squelchy noises. I’m still waiting for them to arrive in the post. I have quite wide feet, so I’m hoping this tactic doesn’t shrink them too much or I won’t be able to wear them!

Went camping with the family and left my crocs sitting by the camper. A couple of hours of sunlight and 108 temps left my crocs a couple of sizes to small. The crocs didnt have a warning on the shoes when I bought them so I think I will contact crocs and see if I can get them replaced. I guess if you live in Alaska you wont have a problem.

The same thing happened to my crocs, I have a pair that I use for yard work and I left them on my back porch and forgot them. The next day I went out and found one in the sun and the other in the shade of the table. I hadn’t noticed a difference then but when I put them on later the one croc in the sun had shrunk at least one shoe size!! In a side by side comparison you can definitely see a size difference. I’m thinking about putting it in hot water and putting a shoe spacer in it to see if it can stretch out again!

Yup, I left my crocks on the deck and now can not wear them. I had no idea! I am a little miffed.

Oh my gosh! I thought I was going crazy when my one crock shrank after a beach trip in Florida. Left in the car I ran out there bare foot knowing I had a pair in the car and what a suprise. I’m suprised too a warning would have been nice. Going to see if I can heat them back up back to shape as advised. Thanks.

I am so glad to see this has happened to other people! I left my toddler son’s crocs in my car – one pair in the back window and one on the floor. The pair in the window shrunk to half the size! The other pair is fine. They were originally a toddler size 7 and now they look about like an infant size 3! My son is heartbroken!

Left mine in the car in the Dallas heat for 2 days and they shrunk about 3 inches. It’s hysterical! I’m getting ready to put them in the microwave to see if I can stretch them back.

  22. Joni Reply

OK – I had to nuke one of them for about 2.5 min. before it got soft enough to stretch, but I did stretch them out a bit – still a little snug. I’m afraid to micro any more than that. Weird.

Yep, left mine in the car. I have one mini croc and one that still fits. weird. Im just going to contact crocs to see if they’ll replace them.

too weird. left mine in the car and only one of them shrunk 2 sizes!!, I was on vacation – and went looking for two days who switched my shoes!! where is google when you need one?!

    uhh..mine shrunk too

if you put them in the dryer for about 2-3 mintues with some towels on medium heat.. then put them on with 2 pairs of socks and wear them for a couple hours, they will be perfect sized after you wear them.. they stretch out as easily as they shrink

  27. mhhorse Reply

I put mine in the dryer on airfluff/delicate and it shrunk, I can’t wear them even with one pair of socks, they shrunk at least 2 sizes..??? I guess I will contact the company and see what they say. what a bummer..

I live in Colorado and I left my crocs set outside the door because they were wet. Next morning my crocs shrunk one or two sizes. The temps outside were nearing 100 degrees yesterday. Bummer.. I have arthritis in my feet and they use to be so comfortable.

I left my crocs in the car for an afternoon and they did some major shrinking. I thought my feet were swollen from the heat or something. They should come with a warning on them

I ordered a pair online and they turned out to be smaller than the shoes I had tried on (in the same size) at the store. I just poured almost boiling water over them in a bucket, let them sit for about 30-40 seconds, and then wore them around with a thick pair of socks on. They totally stretched out — but I stretched them out too much so they were loose! The water in the bucket was still steaming so I put them back in for another 30 seconds, put on a THINNER pair of socks, and now they’re perfect.

I just purchased a pair of Patricia sandals. I tried them on when I first got them and I thought they fit fine. I recently wore them to work for the first time and I swear they were shrinking on my feet (HA!) I had the beginnings of a blister by the end of the day. I have wide feet and have always worn the original (unisex) version. One year my hubby purchase beach crocs and they were almost too wide. So I was really disappointed when the women’s sandals didn’t fit like my old crocs. I will have to try one of the techniques suggested to stretch them out a little.

I recently spent almost $45 on a pair of bogota style crocs with the leather tops. One day I left left them in the car for a few hours on a hot day, only to find that they had shrunken at least 2 shoe sizes, and one more than the other. I have an older pair that I bought in 2006 that this has never happened to, when I’ve left them in my car on a hot day. I sure hope that Crocs will replace my current ruined pair.

There needs to be a disclaimer clearly displayed on the shoe boxes, or some new material composition that won’t have this issue. I’m sure there are more people that haven’t posted here, who this has also happened to.

Found a solution. Heat them in an oven at 200 degrees till warmish hot. Put them on with socks…They will stretch …be careful tho…they stretch like puddy.

stick them in the dryer, put them on over a pair of socks and wear them for about an hour!!
